Hi! I’m Ginny Phillips, now Nelson, owner and founder of Sweet Life Bakery. And I’m so glad you’re here! The short story goes something like this: Born and raised on a farm in Raleigh-Durham, NC. Always surrounded by a huge family (25 aunts, 35 cousins!), I fell in love with hosting parties for the family and BAKING. I baked for everyone – friends, teammates, and of course, my super large family.
I opened Sweet Life Bakery in early 2016, with a mission of bringing the tastiest local and sustainable delicious desserts and KETO treats, to the Triangle and of course, to help “Keep Life Sweet!”
You want the longer story? Coming right up!
Growing up, I was always the kid in the kitchen, covered with flour and helping my grandmother and mother at all of our family gatherings.
Meanwhile, in high school, I was a fierce competitor, which then led me to play Division 1 Volleyball at the College of Charleston. While there, I set baking aside and graduated with a double degree in Business and Hospitality & Tourism Management. After graduation, I scooped up invaluable restaurant experience at the Wild Dunes Resort on the Isle of Palms and then topped that off with marketing and sales experience at the Church Street Inn. While I was happy enough in each of these places, what I discovered I really wanted was to get up every morning and bake delicious treats that would make people smile and say, “Yum!!”
So I did what anyone who wants to be a pastry chef does: pick up and move to New York City! I was classically trained at The Institute of Culinary Education (ICE) in Manhattan by some of the best pastry chefs in the world. After graduation, I accepted a job at one of New York’s premier bakeries, Amy’s Bread.
Which leads us to here and now: today I am the proud owner of Sweet Life Bakery, where we bake amazing tasty and creative treats for parties, meetings, and gatherings of all sorts, and we LOVE weddings too!
